MUN Pick Up Lines

Naturally, as in all MUN conferences, WiMUN is an occasion for intellectual (and often very fruitful) debate. However, it is also an occasion for a bit of flirty banter. And what better of an opportunity is there to shoot your shot than in-between clauses on an individual’s rights to data privacy. Nonetheless, the remote platform Zoom confines us to can make it a lot harder to win over that certain Cuban delegate. Long gone are the subtle note passes and sympathetic winks after that dreaded lone clap. By all means, attempt a wink over Zoom but beware, it may very well catch the attention of someone other than your intended recipient.

Yet fear not, the solution is a simple one; so simple many of you may dismiss it as cliché and unromantic. But that is where you would be wrong. Love is powerful, but puns are more powerful. A well-delivered and suitably cheesy pick up line is guaranteed to win you the heart of any delegate. Below, I have gathered what I deem to be ‘the best of the best’ for your use and enjoyment.

·       “UN I belong together”

Starting with a personal favourite and a failsafe way to secure a smile or at least an exasperated groan.

·       “Are you a model? Because UN I would look good together”

Admittedly very similar to the previous one, but introduces another level of complexity for those of you feeling ambitious.

·       “On a scale of North Korea to the USA, how free are you tonight?”

The ideal mix of humour and intellect to truly impress that special someone.

·       “Do you want to have an international affair?”

Does this one completely make sense? No. But will it be successful? Most definitely.

·       “Are you from Korea? Because you could be my Seoul mate?

Try this one out if you’re in the mood for a more gentle approach.

·       “The Security Council passed a resolution urging you and me to be together”

If any of these are guaranteed to steal your delegate’s heart, it will be this one. After all, if the Security Council says so…
